Andy Flower Fined After Heated Exchange During RCB vs Mumbai Indians IPL 2026 Clash

Issuance of show cause notice: Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 infraction during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 game between RCB and Mumbai Indians. This was after Flower violated the IPL Code of Conduct by using an audible obscenity during a tense encounter on May 10.

This enormous controversy emerged during the latter part of RCB innings when a wayward boundary was called, then made confusion over till those in the field. Krunal Pandya hit a shot towards the long-on boundary in 17th over of the chase where MI fielder Naman Dhir tried to stop the ball near ropes. At first, players and support staff were left wondering if the delivery should be counted as a boundary after contact with the pads around the boundary.

Television replays later showed that the fielder had actually managed to not touch the cushions, and the umpires reversed their call, allowing for a legal fielding effort and denying RCB much-needed runs at an important juncture of the game. The decision led to frustration in the Bengaluru camp with Andy Flower seen disturbed near the dug-out area itself.

Flower got aggressive and exchanged some words with the fourth umpire at the moment, according to IPL officials. Former Zimbabwe captain Streak has confessed the offence and accepted a fine imposed on him by match referee Amit Sharma, although the league said on Wednesday that full details remain confidential. The punishment is treated as “final” and “not subject to appeal” as the breach comes under a Level 1 offence of the IPL Code of Conduct.

In spite of the storm, how quickly it turned into a talking piece from one of those many IPL encounters at 160bpm in peak pressure as we entered the tournament’s final stages drove new levels of intensity and emotion.
