New Zealand Cricket today confirmed its women’s central contracts list for the 2026-27 season, giving opportunities to a new generation of talent at the highest level. Central contracts are awarded to some analysis before, and handy all two earn of them in its most tempting breathers continuing to build on intact international careers as White Ferns future marching line.
All three join a 17- strong contracted group after a transition phase for New Zealand women’s cricket. These new contracts follow up on the international retirements of several veterans including Suzie Bates, Lauren Down and Lea Tahuhu, while Sophie Devine is no longer under a full central contract deal. But their exits have opened the door for new players to make a mark on the national stage.
New head coach Ben Sawyer was confident the three incoming players would do just that. He mentioned that they brought energy, talent and enthusiasm to the squad as every player has shown qualities that can add considerable impact to the White Ferns for years ahead.
Devonshire’s 23-day stint as an all-rounder has much promise, having proven her value at home with bat and ball before Testimonial beckons. Sharp, a wicketkeeper-batter, has been tipped as one of the young stars in New Zealand’s cricket future and already played for the national side. Of particular interest is Patel inclusion, following her return to international cricket where in the matches she has played as a genuine off spinner it was the discipline borne out of did do the trick. Patel has rapidly gone from an international newcomer to a consistent performer and one of the side’s most potent bowlers since debuting in October 2023.
These new contracts also emphasise New Zealand Cricket’s vision of nurturing youth without compromising on responsibility by fielding a well-balanced team to compete and win on the world stage. As such, the 2026-27 contracted bunch combines a number of established names with plenty of promising talent who are expected to be central to the team’s future plans all while several veterans have departed. With the White Ferns gearing up for their international assignments ahead, trusts that the additions of Devonshire, Patel and Sharp represent a new dawn for the national outfit.
